Welcome

Dear Advisors & Delegates,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the eighteenth annual session of the Brown University Simulation of the United Nations (BUSUN). Every November, we have the opportunity to host over eight hundred high school delegates, who spend the weekend debating, analyzing and proposing solutions to the world's most pressing issues. BUSUN 2014 will be held November 07-09, 2014 on Brown University's historic campus in Providence, Rhode Island.

For almost two decades, BUSUN has taken pride in hosting a large conference that attracts schools from all around the world while maintaining an intimate committee experience that allows for an individual emphasis on each delegate. In addition more traditional General Assembly committees, BUSUN also provides a host of Specialized, Historical, and Crisis committees. In these, delegates will have the opportunity to discuss topics outside the normal purview of the United Nations. This year, our committee offerings will range from the Third Vatican Council to the Mughal Dynasty under Akbar the Great.

Our staff of chairs and directors will be working year-round to ensure that BUSUN's committees are as informative as they are enjoyable for delegates of all experiences and backgrounds. BUSUN is dedicated to fostering the spirit of cooperation, and encourages delegates to, above all else, work together to develop effective and nuanced solutions to problems discussed in committee. The BUSUN staff and Secretariat are always impressed with the depth and variety of resolutions that delegates come together to create, and we look forward to seeing what they produce at BUSUN 2014.

We are also pleased to announce our fourth conference-wide theme this year: the Power of Ideology. Many of the topics in our committees will be structured around this theme. Additionally, we hope delegates consider the roles that differing ideologies play in solving global problems as they research their positions and meet their fellow delegates in November.

Registration for BUSUN 2014 will open on April 1st, and will be completed using an online form through our conference website. Registration will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Though registration will not close until September 22nd, BUSUN reached capacity last year by early May. We recommend registering as early as possible to ensure a spot at BUSUN.

The BUSUN Secretariat and Staff will be working throughout the year to organize a successful conference for delegates and advisors. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us an email at info@busun.net. We look forward to working with you to create another fantastic conference this November!

Sincerely,
Abishek Kulshreshtha & Bernadette Stadler
